WA solar battery rebates in 2026: what Perth homes can claim
How the Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program and the WA Residential Battery Scheme combine for Perth Synergy customers in 2026, with worked examples for 10, 13.5 and 20kWh batteries.

If you are on Synergy in Perth, the South West or the Wheatbelt, two rebates can come off the price of a home battery in 2026: the Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program and the WA Residential Battery Scheme. Both are applied as an upfront discount on your quote, so you never have to claim anything back yourself.
Here is how each one works, what changed in May 2026, and roughly what they add up to for the battery sizes we install most.
1. The Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program
The federal discount is paid through small-scale technology certificates (STCs). The number of certificates depends on the battery’s usable capacity and the “STC factor” that applies on the date it is installed.
From 1 May 2026 two things changed, according to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water:
- The STC factor dropped to 6.8 per kWh for batteries installed between May and December 2026, and it now steps down every six months instead of once a year.
- The discount is now tapered by size. The first 14kWh gets the full factor, every kWh from 14 to 28kWh gets 60%, and every kWh from 28 to 50kWh gets 15%.
The Clean Energy Regulator is clear that the rebate is set by the installation date, not the date you sign. That matters when the factor steps down again in the new year.
2. The WA Residential Battery Scheme
On top of the federal discount, the WA Government scheme pays Synergy customers $130 per kWh of usable capacity, up to $1,300. Horizon Power customers in regional WA can receive up to $3,800. The cap is reached at 10kWh, so a bigger battery still gets the full $1,300 but no more.
To qualify you need to:
- be a Synergy or Horizon Power customer, 18 or over and an Australian permanent resident
- install a new battery with at least 5kWh usable capacity, one per property
- choose a battery on the retailer’s supported solutions list, installed by an approved vendor
- join your retailer’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP)
Households earning under $210,000 a year can also apply for a no-interest loan through the scheme. Infinity is an approved vendor, and we apply for the rebate on your behalf.
What it adds up to
These are estimates for a Synergy customer with installation between 1 May and 31 December 2026, using an STC value of $40. STC prices move, so your proposal will show the exact figures.
| Usable battery size | Federal (approx.) | WA scheme | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10kWh | $2,720 | $1,300 | ~$4,020 |
| 13.5kWh | $3,640 | $1,300 | ~$4,940 |
| 20kWh | $4,760 | $1,300 | ~$6,060 |
You can see that the jump from 13.5kWh to 20kWh adds less rebate per kWh than the first 14kWh. That is the taper at work. A bigger battery can still make sense if you run a pool pump, air conditioning or an EV at night, but it should be sized on your usage, not on the rebate.
Does the VPP requirement cost me anything?
Joining the VPP means Synergy can draw on a small part of your stored energy at times of high demand, within the limits of the program. Most households barely notice it. We explain the VPP terms in plain language before you sign and set it up as part of commissioning.
How we handle it
Every Infinity battery proposal lists the equipment, scope, warranties, each rebate line and the final price. Nothing is hidden in the fine print. If a battery doesn’t stack up for your home, we’ll tell you.
Common questions
Do I have to pay the full price and claim the rebate later?
No. Both rebates are applied as an upfront discount on your quote. As an approved vendor, we lodge the paperwork for you.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar and still get the rebates?
Yes. You can claim both rebates when you add a battery to an existing system, provided the battery and inverter are compatible and on the approved lists.
Will the rebate drop if I wait?
The federal STC factor steps down every six months, and it is set by the date the battery is installed. The WA scheme runs until its 100,000 rebates are allocated.
